Teaching

I've been teaching since 2005 and my experience has been primarily as a part-time lecturer at the University of the Philippines Information Technology Training Cener (UP ITTC).

Teaching at the UP ITTC has been something I've always enjoyed, despite the Sunday schedule of the classes I handle. I think teaching IT short courses is really a challenge because I figure eight hours of continuous instruction and bombardment of new concepts, terms, and jargon in a single day can be too intense for some.

That's why I think own personal challenge as the lecturer is to break down the hard concepts to smaller, digestible parts. Of course, making the whole subject matter interesting is also a big perennial challenge. Thankfully, the student feedback forms and instructor evaluations have pointed towards me doing a very good job.

Now, I find myself teaching in new places: I'm co-teaching an elective at the Asian Institute of Management on a topic that's in way up in my alley (no, it's not finance :P) and I'm also co-teaching one subject at the business school of Mapua Institute of Technology in Makati. (Hmmm... I might as well be branded as "The Co-Teacher").

While I enjoy and love teaching, sadly, I don't think teaching is THE career for me. It's not actually a career that will blaze a trail towards financial security and/or renown. I still want something that will help me realize my personal vision for myself and my loved ones, be it something a corporate or entrepreneurial.

Still, I'll continue to teach.
